Gutter Filters (also referred to brush or foam filters)

 

The thought process behind this option is that the plastic or foam or bristles will take up space in the gutter and snag the debris while allowing rainwater to easily flow through the gutter system.

These type filters require REGULAR cleaning and maintenance.

These are KNOWN to attract pests!  Leaves and debris buildup on top of the foam inserts or get trapped by the brush filters causing tons of water to overflow and cause extensive damage to the home's exterior and foundation.

Gutter filters are a PERFECT breeding ground for mold and plants to grow due to water saturation of the foam inserts.

 

 

Gutter Screens (mesh toppers)

 

These are placed over the top of your gutters. They come in varying sizes of perforation and can be made from plastic to metal.

 

Negative Impact

 

As debris collects on top of these toppers it begins to cause buildup, this will cause water overflow onto your foundation and fascia. It could also lead to sagging and leaking due to the the pressure of the debris as it just continues to accumulate.

Gutter Screens are KNOWN to become brittle over time and may break.  There is also a high probability that these will blow off if not nailed into place.  IF they are nailed into a roof this may void whatever warranty you have on your rood.  

Gutter filter and Gutter cleaning is STILL REQUIRED!
